Requirements for Green Power Certification “Green Criteria” for Hydropower
Procedure development
|
The certification of environmentally friendly produced electricity depends
on independent and credible criteria. This is also the case in regards to
“Green Hydropower”.
Until now there was no international certification procedure for hydropower plants available allowing a standardised labelling of green power production. The solving of the problems/ effects involved at a local level were handled extremely poorly. The EAWAG then developed the fundamental principles required for a standardised and scientifically proven certification of “Green Hydropower Plants”. With help from the “Green-Hydro” procedure a power station can prove that it entails both an environmentally responsible management and plant layout. The fundamental principles were compiled together with numerous international experts and a number of various interested groups. The procedure contains both general concepts for the certification of hydropower plants and also the special criteria required in valuing a green hydropower plant. |
