Data: summer 2001 How the Purchasing of Green Electricity functions The Green Hydropower Market Green Electricity Market Figures Green Electricity Providers |
The appearance of Green Electricity on the common market allows Power
Suppliers the chance to compete with one another in proving one’s product
quality / credibility. Green Power’s environmentally positive foundation not only allows its provider the chance to aim at a higher income market, but at the same time improves it’s own image. Being a Green Power user gives one the feeling that we are doing the right thing, helping reduce the environmental damage caused (by normal production), and also by being able to play an active role in supporting certain energy sources. The number of Green Electricity providers has increased remarkably over the last few years, with Germany alone offering more than one hundred companies at the start of 2001. Alongside the more established Power Suppliers there has also been a serge of so-called newcomers hitting the scene, all trying to grab their own share of environmentally aware consumers. (All this as a result of opening the market.) The consumer finds themselves
in an unusual situation, unknown to them till now: They not only have the
choice of different providers but also that of different products. “Eco-Labelling”; the evaluation and labelling of products/ providers available by the given environmental criteria, is an important platform from the customer’s point of view, creating a transparent but believable market together with a fair competition. |
